Zia village

Know of a better way for a summer day than to enjoy a beautiful sunset ? Consider yourself lucky then, because the small town of Zia , not far from Kos Town, is famous throughout Greece for the splendid panorama it offers at sunset. If you have an eternal romantic spirit, you love capturing breathtaking landscapes with your camera, or you simply want to keep a splendid memory of this island, then you absolutely must include Zia among the stages of your journey.

Easily accessible both from Kos Town and from the site of Askelipion , the village of Zia is immersed in an already splendid landscape, all made of pines and eucalyptus trees, and characterized by water sources. Despite being in the district of Asfendiou , an uncontaminated area of the island par excellence, Zia stands out precisely for its strong tourist vocation. The streets of the village are in fact dotted with souvenir shops and typical products , including the chance to try the ” Kanela “, the cinnamon syrup typical of the place. There is no shortage of small taverns with a traditional flavor, where you can taste local cuisine all based on moussaka and dolmades. In short, it seems to be the perfect location for a fun and easy excursion. The small village comes alive in the evening with traditional dances and songs, thus bringing tourists closer to the typical culture of these areas.

But, as we said, what really draws tourists to this area is the wonderful sunset of Zia. Thanks to its geographical position, this country enjoys a breathtaking view of the neighboring islands and then up to the Turkish coasts. When the sun goes down, the sky turns pink and red, giving a panorama that is unmatched on the whole island. A splendid sight that remains forever in the hearts of the tourists who have arrived in Kos and passed through here.

Hiking lovers can find something for their teeth. The path that climbs up to the summit of Mount Dikeos , the highest on the whole island of Kos, starts from Zia. Once you get to the top, it goes without saying that you will enjoy an absolutely wonderful view, but you can also visit the small church located on the mountain. If you decide to do this excursion , always remember to bring a bottle of water with you and to wear shoes that are comfortable for the walk . If you do not have special hiking shoes (a panacea in these cases), then use a pair of sneakers, as long as they do not have a slippery sole. Prepare your backpack carefully, and set off to discover the island of Kos!
